With over 20 years of experience teaching performing arts and creative industry courses in both privately owned and secondary school contexts Luke is committed and passionate about educating young people to reach their desires to be the professional performer or technician that they have the natural talent to become.
Graduating from Deakin University, Rusden in 2000 with a Bachelor or Arts (Dance/Drama), Luke worked as a freelance artist throughout Victoria, tutoring dance and drama workshops for privately owned dance/drama schools and co-producing a variety of professionally independent choreographic works for various major festivals and events.
Luke began his teaching career with St Michael’s Collegiate, Hobart teaching Dance and Drama in 2002 and in 2004 was appointed coordinator for Dance and Drama with the College’s School of Performing Arts. He received his Graduate Diploma of Education (Secondary – Drama) with Charles Sturt University, in 2005.
Luke worked with the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) Corporate Theatre Department regularly as a performer and trainer for various corporate performances and workshops, including tutoring presentation skills and working with the camera for media.
Luke joined Southern Cross Catholic College at its inception in 2010 as the Manager of Entertainment and Events, designing and teaching the Entertainment Industry course, which he continues to teach. In 2016, he was appointed as Leader of Learning and Innovation at the College.
Luke returned to teaching drama in 2021 and knows that his extensive industry experience and love of this discipline will provide his students valuable insights and solid practice in building rich acting, performance and critical analysis skills.
Luke has been recently appointed as the College’s Head of School: Performing Arts and Creative Industries, and endeavours to promote the performing arts in a secondary school context as an inspirational vehicle to develop a young person’s learning experiences and opportunity to develop their industry-related skills to gain access to the industry post SCCC or entry to performing arts university courses.
