Our school’s pedagogy reflects the overarching principles and approach to learning outlined in the Sydney Catholic Schools’ Statement on Authentic Learning. By connecting to the real world of students’ lives, authentic learning enables students to become lifelong learners who contribute to society and the wider world as active and discerning citizens. Authentic learning is central to our work as Catholic educators because it promotes the continual growth and wellbeing of the whole person; spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, socially and physically.
Southern Cross Catholic College Burwood (SCCC) continues to re-imagine the framework of schooling by rethinking the space, time and the model for learning, allowing students to choose when, what and how they learn.
The model involves the realignment of teaching staff schedules to ensure that there is increased availability to students for personalised learning.
All learning operates in a blended learning environment with coursework made available through the learning management system, complemented by opportunities for one-to-one or small group interaction with learning facilitators.
Southern Cross remains at the forefront of educational innovation, providing a unique and powerful learning model personalising the learning for all students.
Virtual learning is not a new concept for Southern Cross students as the majority of our VET offerings already operate in this virtual learning environment. To find out more please see the overview provided in our Continuity of Learning plan.
