Lauren Azar
Music Tutor: Singing
Versatile Vocalist and Performer Lauren Azar has been forging a music career professionally for the last 11 years.
Lauren has been driven by musical aspiration for most of her young life. Writing songs since the age of 12 and self taught in piano, she further developed playing and performance technique attending Newtown Performing Arts and being a graduate of the Talent Development project. She was a featured performer in the Schools Spectacular for 4 years and an Encore recipient in her graduating year of 2008.
Her desire to write music and start a band was strong due to her musical influences such as No Doubt, Garbage and Alanis Morrisette (just to name a few). This led her to forming the musical group Hey Horzé. They released 2 demos and an EP and performed statewide countless shows, earning them a loyal fan base and FBI and Triple J unearthed airplay.
Lauren turned her attention to Starla, a project that would provide an outlet for more introspective and personal songwriting. “Placing her lyrics front and centre, driven by a contemporary take on blue eyed soul and anchored in Lauren’s funky keyboard riffs, Starla is the clearest realisation of Lauren’s songwriting potential to date.” – Jeremy Dylan (Filmmaker, Writer, Producer – My Favourite Album, Seven Shells Media)
In July of 2018, Lauren became the resident singer for The Rubens singing their hit single “Never Ever”. This has led Lauren to performing with the Band as they supported Pink’s recent “Beautiful Trauma” Tour, appearing on Triple J’s “The Set” and MTV Unplugged just to name a few. As well as touring internationally, her work with established artists continues professionally.
Recently Lauren has been working with Andrew Farriss (INXS) as keyboardist and backing vocalist which has found her touring all over Australia.
Lauren has always been an advocate and very passionate about giving up and coming performers a fun fresh approach to learning singing. After teaching at Sister to Sister School of singing, Marist Sisters’ College, Woolwich, Casimir Catholic College, Marrickville and Leah Cassar Voice Production over the past 11 years, Lauren had garnered a lot of skills and techniques to inject into her own Music lessons. From Popular/contemporary through to Music Theatre, Lauren’s extensive knowledge of Genres helps her students to flourish in their style.
